Brunch is back!

Hi all,
Brunches were many and pleasant this spring, but alas with the demolition and the slow rebuilding of our kitchen, there has been a hiatus on the Sunday Brunches this summer. But the kitchen, although not completely finished, is functional enough to begin hosting Sunday Brunch again, and this past Sunday was a fabulous meal and time to be had by all.
The menu:
Fig-Pear-Roasted Walnut-Goat Cheese-Balsamic Fruit salad.
Quiche that was so Light and Fluffy!
Roasted potatoes with Thyme and Rosemary picked fresh from the garden.
Two versions of chocolate zucchini bread... we all know what is overabundant in home gardens!
And a plethora of grape varieties, most of which were picked just a day before at Door Creek Orchard which can be found just east of town near Cambridge off 12.

Brunch Success

Well, our first official Sunday Brunch was a success, but the quiche on the other hand not so much. I still have not figured out how to include mushrooms in a quiche without it turning into egg drop soup in a pie crust. I knew it would be risky, but I was feeling hopeful. You should have seen them as they sizzled in butter and salt when I pre-sautéed them. They were gorgeous! And the aroma: unbelievable as onions and garlic danced in a neighboring pan: the scents entwining and swirling. It was a true thing of beauty, which words cannot fully describe, but despite the ambrosial odors, they were apparently still full of water.

In the end, the flavor, despite the unfortunate consistency, kept them still a delight to savor along with the roasted potatoes, a delicious loaf of home-baked bread (which was brought over), amazing tempeh (also brought over), chocolate chip scones prepared by the roommates, and some biscuits with fresh strawberries and whipped cream for dessert! A feast for sure!
Thanks to everyone who could make it, and thanks to everyone who has expressed so much support and enthusiasm for our Sunday Brunch Adventure!
Anne & I cannot wait to sit down together over a delicious meal with everyone!

A new tradition

Anne and I are not what you might call social butterflies, but we do love people, family, and community; we love growing, preparing, and eating food; and we love having people over to our house to share meals with us.

Thus, the idea of Sunday Brunch. We hope that you'll join us in this new project to strengthen and broaden our community. We don't know where this is going to take us, so we will just have to wait and see, but I am hoping that this will become a new tradition-one that is just not "mine" but "yours" too.

Everybody needs to eat so come on over and enjoy brunch with us. Mark it on your calenders unless you hear otherwise: Every first and third Sunday of the month, 10:30am, our place.
